ESC 441 - Landscape Ecology

Field Trips

There will be two exciting field trips for ESC 441. The first, a day trip to Pack Forest and Mt. Rainier NP, is required and will take place on the first weekend of the school year. The second is a weekend trip to the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area and the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. There is a fee associated with the field trips.

Pack Forest and Mt. Rainier NP

The field trip will take place Saturday, the 6^th of January.

Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area and the Gifford Pinchot National Forest

The field trip will take place on March 2^nd, 3^rd, and 4^th (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday).

Preparing for the Field Trips

The instructor and the TA will hand out the required readings for the field trips at the beginning of the quarter. Going over these readings in advance of the field trip will increase your appreciation of the material we discuss in the field.

Now, as far as what the student needs to bring:

Warm clothing, including raingear

Good boots or walking shoes

Materials for note-taking

A camera if desired

Enough lunch and quick breakfast food for the trip

On the overnight trip, students will need:

A sleeping bag (no tents needed unless student prefers to camp)

Personal necessities (toothbrush, etc.)
