CFR SPACE ALLOCATION GUIDELINESAllocations and reallocations of space in Anderson , Bloedel, Winkenwerder, the Plant Lab basement, and the Plant Lab Annex are considered as needed by the CFR Resources Committee. Requests for space should be sent to Bob Edmonds (bobe@u.washington.edu) for placement on the Committee's agenda. The Committee will be guided by the following general principles: 1. Office space (either private or shared) is allocated to individuals , with priority to faculty, staff, and fully supported graduate students. The College makes every effort to provide office space for all full-time faculty , regardless of funding source or type of appointment. As needed, faculty may be asked to share office space. Part-time faculty (including faculty re-employed at 40% and teaching) are usually assigned shared space. Research Associates are normally assigned shared office space in space assigned to their sponsoring research program. Faculty holding appointments with no formal workload are normally not assigned office space. Affiliate and retired/emeritus faculty (except for “40% faculty” in their teaching quarters) are in this category. At the request of a sponsoring faculty member, and if available, shared office space will normally be made available to visiting faculty, scientists, and scholars . Within the student category, the following priorities apply: a. Fully supported students over partially supported, unsupported, or self-supported students (including those with support from outside agencies or foreign governments) b. Graduate students over undergraduates c. Research assistants over teaching assistants Professional and classified staff are assigned office space on the basis of the needs and requirements of their work load as presented by their supervisors and evaluated by the Resources Committee. This includes administrative, research center, and other research staff. 2. Research laboratories and other non-office spaces, including storage spaces, are allocated to interest groups and research centers , although for operational purposes they are managed by an individual. 3. College-wide facilities, such as teaching laboratories and classrooms, computing spaces, community spaces, and conference spaces are not assigned. 4. Each space is the responsibility of a single individual , who is the point person for questions about the space, is responsible for maintaining the space in an orderly fashion compliant with all applicable University codes including but not limited to fire and safety, and if needed, schedules use of the space. 5. Space assignments will be reviewed periodically by the Resources Committee, with recommendations made to reflect the changing profile and priorities of the College. 6. Exceptions to these guidelines can be made on a case-by-case basis. April 12, 2006 |
