From a domestic US perspective my research is related to understanding those factors that influence the adoption and diffusion of new wooden building materials within the residential construction industry. Another area of research focuses on understanding the factors that influence the substitution between wood and non-wood products as an industrial raw material feedstock in the secondary wood products industry.

At the international level my research interests include understanding the technology transfer issues that adversely impact the adoption and use of the North American 2x4 residential construction technology in Japan. This research includes a cost analysis to identify those factors that contribute to the high cost of 2x4 residential construction in Japan. Finally, I am involved in two projects in Ghana and the Philippines to develop a set of marketing strategies to more effectively promote the introduction and acceptance of lesser-used tropical timber species as a component of sustainable forest management in the tropics.
