Subject: [Staffcfr] Joint Appoints in General

In mid-October, I asked the elected faculty advisory council to evaluate joint appointments (charge letter is the 
4th item in the attachment).  They did so and have provided a report that I have attached.  

Their cautionary focus, especially at the assistant professor level, is noted.  It is unclear, particularly given 
the current budget and hiring environment, what position the provost's or Dean's office will be taking on joint 
hires.  As suggested in the document by Perez-Garcia and Anderson, each case is unique and the cautions suggested 
by the EFAC must be observed from the start of any discussion.

I thank them for providing this thoughtful and valuable input.
