Agee , Darlene Zabowski , Cecilia Paul , Thomas Mentele , JOSHUA J. LAWLER , Shannon Ewanick Cc: Steve West , Nevada Smith Subject: School of Forest Resources Dear Name Change Exploration Committee: As reported at our October 7th all-School meeting, the 90+ participants of our September strategic planning meeting developed 10 top objectives to accomplish in the coming year. These were later reduced to eight via combinations. One of these objectives is to "Explore changing the name of SFR." The participants recommended appointing an ad hoc committee of faculty, staff, and students to consider whether the name should be changed, and, if so, to facilitate changing it. The committee should report no later than January 1, 2010 in preparation for a faculty vote no later than February 1, 2010. Early completion would be encouraged. I am asking your help in this important task. Your membership on this committee will provide an important perspective as we exploring the question of a new name for theSchool of Forest Resources. If you are willing to undertake this assignment, a formal committee charge will follow. Cecilia will not only be a member of the committee, but will provide the committee with appropriate organizational tools needs for smooth functioning. I would suggest that use a combination of emails and interviews to solicit a broad range of input, that walk the fine line between clarity, truth in advertising and appropriate acknowledgment of tradition as you move forward. I would also suggest that you elect a chair as one of your first functions (Professors Agee and Wott are off the table as potential chair candidates). Thank you.
