From hinckley@u.washington.edu Fri Jul 30 17:17:28 2010 Date: Fri, 30 Jul 2010 17:17:00 -0700 From: Tom Hinckley To: "faccfr@u.washington.edu" , "staffcfr@u.washington.edu" Cc: Jessie Garcia Subject: [Faccfr] Tom Mentele Dear All: I am writing to announce that Tom Mentele has elected to seek new opportunities and will be leaving his position in the College of the Environment, School of Forest Resources and UW. I want to acknowledge Tom's significant contributions to our community. He has had considerable success in engaging alumni, friends, donors, and external organizations across the country. His enthusiasm and his ability to maintain and steward relationships over time has led to a much more professional and consistent manner of interacting with all of our constituents. Over the last eight plus years, Tom has served the School of Forest Resources as the Director of Advancement. During that time, he led SFR's extremely successful private fundraising effort resulting in millions of dollars of discretionary and endowed funds, while assisting in the fruition of several major estate gifts. He has worked with the leadership at Forest Resources and campus partners to craft a number of signature named events that showcase the programs and the people of Forest Resources while appropriately and consistently recognizing and cultivating alumni, friends, and donors. From well attended lectures in Kane Hall about Sustaining our NW World or trips to look for wild horses on the Yakama Reservation, Tom and his team found a range of venues to enhance the image of Forest Resources and its connections to the broader campus and external community. I am honored to have worked with Tom on several of these endeavors. I convey the appreciation of the faculty, staff, and students to Tom for his loyal service and commitment to Forest Resources and the University of Washington. We will miss him, and we look forward to seeing him return elsewhere in our local community following time vacationing with family this summer.
