Carol Green reports, "Spring Quarter 2001 was rather quiet in FRL. Sunshine and fewer CFR classes combined to draw folks out of the basement and into the out-of-doors.
Fortunately, FRL had no damage from the February earthquake, but Kate Scully, our Serials Technician, worked mornings in the Engineering Library where the staff was recovering from earthquake damage.
Reviewing serials for potential cancellations occupied FRL staff for most of the quarter. A preliminary list was developed and is being reviewed by the CFR community. Final decisions are due in mid-August. The list will be posted on the FRL Web page, http://www.lib.washington.edu/Forest/, before the end of July. A list of all titles selected for cancellation by the UW Libraries will be posted on the Information Gateway in late August. Be sure to review the lists and send in your comments and concerns. More information about the project is at http://www.lib.washington.edu/serialsRev/. Final decisions on cancellations will not be made until the 2001-2003 budgets are known.
FRL and UW Libraries staff also assisted with the recovery of materials from the Elisabeth B. Miller Library at CUH by helping with clean-up and storage of materials. Those who have Miller Library materials checked out can return them to FRL and we will hold them until they can be returned.
I will be on leave during July and August 2001. Kathy Gilbert, Kate Scully, and Louise Richards, Acting Head of the Fisheries Oceanography Library, will be here to help you with your research questions.
Congratulations to CFR graduates and have a great summer!"
