Examines the relationship between forests and economic development in tropical countries. Topics include the role of population growth, poverty, land tenure, and international trade on forest use as well as theories of economic development. Background of biological, social, and economic basis for silvicultural practices in different areas; case examples of silvicultural practices in different localities; consideration of selected international issues in silviculture. Prerequisite: permission of instructor. Offered Winter Quarter.
QSCI 482 Statistical Inference in Applied Research (5 credits)
Analysis of variance and covariance; chi square tests; nonparametric procedures multiple and curvilinear regression; experimental design and power of tests. Application to biological problems. Use of computer programs in standard statistical problems. Prerequisite: either STAT 311 or Q SCI 381. Offered: AWS.
