PEACE CORPS MASTER’S INTERNATIONAL PROGRAM IN INTERNATIONAL FORESTRY

Peace Corps Project Overview

International forestry volunteers usually work and live with a local community helping to identify solutions to a wide variety of forest-related problems, although they occasionally work directly with national forestry or non-governmental organizations on natural resource projects. International forestry volunteers generally work to increase the capacity of local communities to manage their forests and other natural resources in a more sustainable manner. While there are no typical forestry or natural resource projects, past forestry projects have included setting up and managing a tree nursery, establishing fuelwood plantations, teaching environmental awareness classes to primary and secondary students, establishing agro-forestry projects, developing a community forest management plan, mentoring and one-on-one skill building aimed at increasing the management capacity of community forest and natural resource managers.
