GETTING STARTED WITH UW EXCHANGE EMAIL:OUTLOOK WEB ACCESSUW Exchange has an easily accessible web interface which is known as "Outlook Web Access". It is similar to the Univeristy's WebPine product, with the added functionality that Exchange provides. We recommend that you use Internet Explorer 7 so that you can take advantage of the full featured interface, but it also has a trimmed down "light" version which will work with most browsers including those found on many portable devices such as PDAs and SmartPhones. Automatic Setup ScriptWe have made an automatic script available for download, to get it right-click here and select "save as". Save it to your desktop, unzip it, and doubleclick on the UWEXconfig.exe file to start the configuration script. You will see the following window prompt you for your username and password. Enter your UWNetID username in the username box and your UWNetID password in the password box, then click the "Log in" button.
You may see 3 login prompts from Outlook, do not try to enter anything in them. The script will enter your username and password for you each time. Once it completes you may open Outlook and it will begin caching your email from the UW Exchange server. Manual Setup InstructionsIf for some reason the automatic script above does not successfully configure Outlook for you, here are step by step instructions for manually configuring it. Please select the version of Outlook you're using, if 2007 please choose the appropriate on/off campus link that matches your current location. Outlook 2003 Manual Setup Instructions1. If Outlook is open, from the File menu click Exit. 2. Click the Start button, then click Control Panel. 3. Look in the top left corner of the Control Panel window and do ONE of the following:
4. Double-click on the Control Panel Applet named "Mail". 5. Click on the Show Profiles button. 6. Click on the Add button to create a new mail profile. 7. Name the new profile "UW Exchange" and click OK. 8. Select the "Add a new e-mail account" radio button and then click Next. 9. Select the "Microsoft Exchange Server" radio button and then click Next. 10. Enter the following information in the boxes
Then click the "More Settings" button. 11. Make sure "Automatically detect connection state" is selected, then click the "Connection" tab. 12. On the Connection tab, check the "Connect to my Exchange mailbox using HTTP" box, and then click the "Exchange Proxy Settings" button. 13. Enter the following information in the "Exchange Proxy Settings"dialog, and then click OK. 14. At the bottom of the "Mail" dialog window select the "Always use this profile" radio button, in the drop down menu below select the new "UW Exchange" profile you just created and then Click OK. 15. Log in with your UWNetID, entering your username in the form of "NETID\username" and your UWNetID password in the Password box. If you entered everything correctly you should now see Outlook start up and begin caching your email from the UW Exchange server. Congratulations, you're all done! Outlook 2007 On Campus Manual Setup InstructionsOutlook 2007 is capable of automatically configuring itself if your computer is on campus. 1. If Outlook is open, from the File menu click Exit. 2. Click the Start button, then click Control Panel. 3. Look in the top left corner of the Control Panel window and do ONE of the following:
4. Double-click on the Control Panel Applet named "Mail". 5. Click on the Show Profiles button. 6. Click on the Add button to create a new mail profile. 7. Name the new profile "UW Exchange" and click OK. 8. The two text boxes should automatically populate to the current user's information within a few moments. Once they do, click Next. 9. Log in with your UWNetID, entering your username in the form of "NETID\username" and your UWNetID password in the Password box. 10. Your configuration is complete once you see the dialog below. Congratulations, you may now open Outlook and it will begin caching your email from the UW Exchange server. If you were not successful, please follow the off campus instructions below to manually configure your account in Outlook.
Outlook 2007 Off Campus Manual Setup InstructionsIf you are setting up Outlook 2007 from off campus, you will not be able to take advantage of the new automatic configuration capabilities. 1. If Outlook is open, from the File menu click Exit. 2. Click the Start button, then click Control Panel. 3. Look in the top left corner of the Control Panel window and do ONE of the following:
