CFR to Require Password Changes Effective Nov. 24

There have been a number of recent security incidents at CFR, including the high-jacking of one of our computers for use in a password hacking scheme. In response to increasing security threats we must ask that everyone using the CFR computing environment update their passwords on a regular basis.

We are amending the CFR Computing Policy effective Wednesday the 24th of November, requiring that passwords be changed every 6 months. If your password is already over 6 months old, you will be required to change it on November 24th. No one will be denied access to the computing environment as a result of this change in policy, but you haven’t changed your password during the past 6 months, you will have to change your password to gain access to the system.

For instructions on changing your password see: http://www.cfr.washington.edu/computing/gettingstarted/cfrnetid.htm.

Thank you for your cooperation.
