To Update Web Pages from a Macintosh

The configuration of Dreamweaver is detailed here, but this method can be easily adapted for other html editing applications as well.

  1. DAVE version 5.1 from Thursby Software is required to connect to the web server.  If you do not have DAVE, email cfrhelp@cfr.washington.edu to get DAVE installed on your Macintosh.
  2. Click on the Go menu in the finder, and select Connect to Server.
  3. Enter 'cifs://net/main/cfr web' in the address field.  Then click connect or press enter.
  4. You will then be prompted to enter your login information.  Enter your CFR login name and password in the appropriate fields.  Enter CFR in the Domain field.  Then click connect or press enter.  You should soon see a network disk icon called CFR Web on your desktop.  This is the root folder of the web server.
  5. Open Dreamweaver and select Manage Sites from the Site menu.
  6. Click New then Site.  If you already have your Site configured in Dreamweaver, select your site then click Edit.
  7. If you are editing an existing site, skip this step.  If you are configuring a new site, you should name your site and specify a folder on your computer to keep a local copy of your site.  This is done from the Local Info category in the left hand pane.
  8. Select Remote Info from the Category pane on the left side of the window.
  9. Select Local/Network from the Access menu in the right hand pane.
  10. Click the folder icon to the right of the Remote folder field.
  11. In the Choose remote root folder window, scroll all the way to the left and select the CFR Web network disk that you mounted in step 4.  Then click 'Choose', then 'OK', then 'Done'.
  12. If you are configuring a new site, you should Synchronize your local and remote copies of the site.  To do this, click the small menu button in the top right hand corner of the Files window.  (If you do not see the Files window, select Files from the Window menu or press F8.)  Then select Synchronize from the Site submenu.
  13. Specify in the following menus whether you want the entire site or only selected files, and which direction you want to copy the files (remote to local, or local to remote).  Then click Preview.
  14. Verify that the files that you want to copy are checked and uncheck files that you do not want to copy.  Then click OK.
  15. Edit your web pages as you normally would in Dreamweaver, and follow the instructions in step 12 to upload your pages to the server when you are finished.
  16. When you are done editing your web pages, drag the CFR Web network disk icon to the trash to disconnect.
