2006 CFR Resources Committee MinutesDecember 26, 2006 Colleagues We have received a couple of requests to use our College's flexible meeting rooms (i.e., AND 22 and the new BLD 292) for regularly scheduled classes. These requests have resulted in the College Resources Committee proposing the following recommended clarifications regarding use of these rooms. I have reviewed these policy clarifications and concur. AND 22 and BLD 292 will be used primarily for seminars (see restrictions below), small graduate classes (see restrictions below), faculty meetings, staff meetings, student presentations, graduate examinations, research meetings, professional or public outreach College events, alumni meetings, social events, and advisory/visiting committee meetings. These rooms are not to be used for regularly scheduled lecture classes (LC), quiz (QZ) or lab (LB) sections. Exceptions to this policy include: 1. regularly scheduled for-credit seminars (SM) or graduate classes (IS) that meet once per week for 1 - 1.5 hours; 2. regularly scheduled for-credit graduate classes (IS) that meet more than once per week AND are scheduled after 5:00 pm. 3. Special arrangements for use of BLD 292 for small classes using video conferencing equipment. We feel that this room usage policy allows us to retain room scheduling flexibility while accommodating use of the room for small classes. Additional details on room usage are available on the web. B. Bruce Bare, Dean December 21, 2006 The CFR Resources Committee recommends, and I concur, with the following office space reassignments: Ms Geetha Sukumaran to move to Anderson, Rm 216, and This move consolidates our financial services operations in a central location in Anderson 216. Jon joined the College on December 18 as our new information management specialist to oversee development of our College's data management systems and interactions with the College's web site. Please join me in welcoming him to the College. B. Bruce Bare, Dean October 16, 2006 Colleagues The CFR Resources Committee met on October 13, 2006 to discuss several space issues. In attendance were Gordon Bradley, Beverly Anderson, Sally Morgan, Bob Edmonds, Dave Manuwal and Bruce Bare. WINK 104 has been converted into the administrative center for faculty services. We believe this will provide for a more efficient delivery of integrated services to our faculty. Amanda Davis and Nevada Smith are located in WINK 104 along with Chair Bradley and are available to assist faculty seeking help with administrative services. As previously announced on September 4, 2006, BLD 292 is in the process of being converted into a flexible meeting space for seminars, graduate classes, College meetings, etc. It will be configured with tables and chairs to be comparable to AND 22 and will be available for reservation on the College web site available beginning Winter Quarter 2007. We are also investigating the use of this room for our video conferencing equipment. This decision was previously posted on our CFR web site. The mailboxes and the shared printer previously located in BLD 292 are being relocated to the work space portion of the Honors Room. We intend to move the Xi Sigma Pi file cabinet from this work space to the mezzanine of the Forest Club Room in the near future. This will provide additional work space in the Honors Room and will allow us to consolidate student club records in one place. In order to accommodate our retiring faculty when they are reemployed under the 40% option and our teaching assistants, we are in the process of converting BLD 311 into a shared faculty office and TA space. We are installing six TA work spaces to be shared by TAs during the quarters they are employed as teaching assistants and six faculty work spaces to be shared during the quarters retired faculty are reemployed. These latter spaces are also available to accommodate visiting faculty if approved in advance. In addition, the room provides a shared meeting space to allow group discussions. We expect the room to be refurbished during Winter 2007. I approve all of the changes described herein. B. Bruce Bare, Dean September 4, 2006 Colleagues The CFR Resources Committee met on September 1, 2006 to consider two space-related issues: 1. Associate Dean Edmonds recommended that AND 123G be made available to Lauri Valsta, Visiting Scholar during autumn 2006. Dr Valsta will be working with Professor Lippke on CORRIM-related issues. APPROVED 2. The Deans Council discussed the future use of BLD 292 after Amanda Davis moves her office to WINK 104 and after the mail boxes and printer are moved into the work space in the Honors Room. It was recommended that BLD 292 be used as a flexible meeting space for seminars, graduate classes, College meetings, etc. It will be configured with tables and chairs to be comparable to AND 22 and will be available for reservation on the College web site available beginning Winter Quarter 2007. APPROVED B. Bruce Bare, Dean August 11, 2006 Colleagues The CFR Resources Committee discussed and recommends the following action items dealing with space issues. My decisions are noted for each item. 1) I APPROVE your recommendation to allocate space in BLD M6 to Professor Doty on two conditions:
2) Professor Doty is ALLOCATED Professor Hinckley's WINK lab effective as soon as possible. Professor Hinckley is allocated Professor Brubaker's old WINK lab, also effective as soon as possible. B. Bruce Bare, Dean April 27, 2006 Colleagues, I wish to bring to your attention the recently revised CFR (Bloedel) Wood Shop policy that was developed by the CFR Health and Safety Committee and the Dean's Office. We believe this new policy allows us to operate the wood shop in a safe manner without compromising accessibility. If you are a wood shop user, please read the policy at your convenience. Thanks and best wishes. B. Bruce Bare, Dean April 12, 2006 With the arrival of our new faculty hires, space needs around the College will become more acute. In anticipation, the CFR Resources Committee has updated the College's Space Allocation Guidelines and recommends their adoption. A copy of the updated space guidelines and a Space Allocation Request Form are attached. As of April 12, I concur with these recommendations. Also attached is a table showing the CFR Resources Committee's recommendations for office/lab assignments for the new faculty. Also shown are other faculty office/lab reassignments. I also concur with these recommendations as of April 12. The CFR Resources Committee has also developed a longer term office/lab allocation schedule for additional new faculty as they join the College. Because of the uncertainty over their exact arrival dates, we will defer distribution of this schedule until more certain information is available. It appears, however, that we will have adequate office/lab space to meet the pending needs. B. Bruce Bare, Dean January 9, 2006 Colleagues: On October 12 we solicited equipment requests for available state funds during the current academic year. All requests received have been reviewed by the CFR Resources Committee and approximately $38,300 was allocated to specific purchases. Please work through the Faculty Chair to implement the decisions refelected on the referenced spreadsheet. As noted on the referenced spreadsheet, the Resources Committee awaits further information regarding a new printer at CUH. Once this information is received, we will complete the allocation of funds to the three areas marked in yellow. I urge all receipents of College state funds to finalize their purchases as early as possible, but in no case later than June 1, 2006. Allocated funds remaining unspent by this date will be reallocated within the College. Thank you. B. Bruce Bare, Dean
