Mission:

  • To support the forest products needs of Washington's citizens and stimulate economic growth.

  • Increase the resolution in which forests are managed sustainably so that the values of products and services from forests are increased.

Goal:
To develop tools and processes that increase the precision of forest data collected and analyzed to allow exact planning, implementation, and review of sustainable management activities. This is to be done in cooperation with private landowners, harvesters, manufacturers, public agencies, and the public so that the positive economic impact of Precision Forestry can be maximized.

Objectives:
1. Review existing technologies that can be rapidly adapted to forests applications.
2. Collaborate with the public, industry, and public agencies to investigate what new technologies could be developed.
3. Develop those technologies that will provide the greatest return of forest products and services to Washington State for the least cost.
4. Test and implement the technologies adapted and developed that need the greatest technical expertise.
