Meeting held at 12 noon, Forest Club Room

April 17, 2003 6:00pm Joint meeting with the South Puget Sound SAF Chapter

Ara is coordinating dinner for this meeting. She has sign up sheets, and needs volunteers to help with set up, clean up etc. etc.

6:00 start/social hour. One student presentation before dinner. 2 presentations after dinner. Student presenters includes Mark Swanson, Brian Zwiebel and Andrew Hill. Edie will coordinate presenter technology needs.

Guests can park in lot C10 for $3 after 5 pm, or try to find a meter in the U. District.

John and Ara will send out more notices to staff, faculty and students at CFR to encourage higher attendance at the dinner.

May 2 Field Trip to Fort Lewis
Gary will give our group the tour. Derek is coordinating with Gary at Fort Lewis. Sign up in the Silviculture lab. We are planning to take one van, so space is limited.
Derek will send out an itinerary, approximate departure time will be 8:30 a.m.

Board of Natural Resources--Alicia
Next meeting of the board is May 4th (first Tuesday of the month), which is also the same time as the Western Forest Economics Meeting. The board is discussing 7 alternatives for determining the allowable harvest on state lands. Each of the next few meetings the board will hear, and discuss, two alternatives. Contact Alicia for more information on attending the next BNR meeting in Olympia.

National Meeting in Buffalo, NY
Not much information posted on the SAF website yet. Ara will continue to look into scholarship opportunities

World Forestry Congress
September 21 to 28, 2003 in Quebec City, Canada
We can use the $500/student appropriated by the Dean to attend this meeting, rather than the SAF meeting. There may be more students interested in attending this meeting, than the national SAF meeting.
