from the official meetings are:

Michael Andreu, Anne Andreu, Ara Erickson, Mariano Amoroso, Edie Sonne Hall).
" Awarded 5 new members $15 towards member dues (Chris Raynham, Derek
Beauchemin, Jessica Larson, Julie Forcier, Daisuke Sakuma)
" Voted on and passed a formal policy on how to use the Dean-allocated
budget for student participation in SAF or other national/international forestry-related
conferences
" Planning for future events (field trips, talks, outreach projects)
Minutes for October 8 and October 29 chapter meetings are on the UW SAF web site, http://www.cfr.washington.edu/saf/minutes/index.html
Events Organized and/or Hosted by SAF UW Student Chapter
" Old Growth Trees around New York City- On Thursday November 20, SAF
hosted a talk by UW alumnus Daniel Karpin. Daniel received his BS in Forest
Science (with a double major in Physics) from UW in 1970. He is now a consultant
and engineer (invented the Nd-doped glass for car headlights), but has a long-time
interest in finding old growth stands in the Northeast. Daniel showed slides
of Old Growth stands right in Manhattan proper as well as many stands just
outside the city. Thanks are due to chapter officers Ara Erickson and Phil
Chi along with Prof. Tom Hinckley for organizing this event. For more information
see, http://www.championtrees.org/oldgrowth/index.htm
" DNR Policy Director Craig Partridge on Certification of DNR lands-
On Friday, December 12, SAF invited Craig Partridge, Policy Director at Washington
Department of Natural Resources, to speak to interested students and faculty
about the history, status, and issues concerning green certification of DNR
lands. Craig gave a very informative summary of the mandates for DNR trustlands,
the timeline for certification and the DNR, and the status for both FSC and
SFI certification. Craig agreed to come back again after SAF students have
had time to form opinions on what DNR should do. We had good turn out for
this event including undergraduate and graduate students as well as CFR faculty
and staff, including Dean Bare. Thanks to Alicia Robbins for facilitating
this event.
" Forest Club, Wildlife Society, SAF Tree Trimming Social- SAF helped
sponsor a holiday social on Thursday December 4. Attendees decorated the CFR
Christmas Tree and took a much needed break before fall quarter exams. Julie
Forcier and Phil Chi led the SAF effort.
Future Events- Future event ideas abound but we need your help putting them together. Please contact the appropriate contact person if you are able to help with any of these or other events for winter quarter
" MLK Service Day- We are thinking about organizing an SAF group to participate
in one of the many volunteer opportunities on MLK Day (Jan 17). Please contact
Alicia Robbins, astr@u.washington.edu, if you are interested in volunteering
on that day.
" Non-industrial Private Landowner Field Trip- We are putting together
a field trip to the Christmas Tree Farm (where the Forest Club cuts the Christmas
Trees) and Stinson's Tree Farm. Please contact (Anny Schmidt, anny522@u.washington.edu,
or Michael Andreu, andreu@u.washington.edu) if you would like to help plan
this event.
" Tour of the Port of Tacoma or Port of Seattle- We are interested in
learning about the inspection process to control for invasive species, pests
etc
on imported goods. We have contacted a Patti King who has agreed
to host a tour guide from the Port of Tacoma and were recently contacted by
the Homeland Security People responsible for inspections to confirm their
willingness to host a field trip. Tentative dates for this trip are: January
9th or preferably Jan 16th or later in February. Derek Beauchemin and Michael
Andreu are organizing this effort and they can be contacted if you have questions
or would like to be included on this field trip. (dbeauch@u.washington.edu
or andreu@u.washington.edu,).
" Still on the Docket is a Spring Tour of the Trees of Greenlake with
noted tree expert Arthur Lee Jacobson. We will be charging for this event
a fee to cover costs.
If you have any other ideas please contact Edie Sonne Hall, edie@u.washington.edu.
