SFR's Web Portal

SFR has implemented a Web Portal to provide access to it's network resources from many locations and computing platforms. To use the portal point your favorite web browser to http://portal.cfr.washington.edu.

Q: What is the SFR Web Portal?
A: The SFR Web Portal is a way to access SFR Network Resources from virtually anywhere on the Internet.

Q: How do I connect to the CFR Web Portal?
A: Point your HTTPS capable web browser to http://portal.cfr.washington.edu.

Q: I use a Macintosh. Can I use portal?
A: Yes. Portal is compatible with Mac's and it most popular web browsers used on Mac's.

Q: Can I use Portal from my Linux based computer?
A: Yes. Portal is compatible with Linux and most popular web browsers used with Linux.

Q: Why do I get the error "The security certificate was issued by a company you have not chosen to trust..." when I connect to Portal?
A: Portal uses an SSL Certificate issued by the UW Services Certificate Authority. To properly establish SSL communications with Portal you should have the UW Services CA's Certificate installed on your computer.

Q: Can I view files using the SFR Web Portal?
A: In the Windows Files section, navigate to the file you wish to view/edit in the left pane and click on it. In the right pane click "Load into browser".
*NOTE: The appropriate application must be installed on the computer you are using.
*Additional Note: This is a READ ONLY view. The file cannot be edited.

Q: What is the VPN_to_SFR feature for?
A: A VPN (Virtual Private Network) is a way of connecting to a remote network over the internet in a way that your traffic cannot be intercepted by other people. It is useful if you are using an application that needs access to the SFR network, such as Dreamweaver.

Q: Is there a way to connect to Portal's VPN_to_SFR without all the messy mucking about with web pages?
A: There is if your using Microsoft Windows. Just download and install the handy F5 Networks VPN Client for Windows.

Q: I'm using VPN_to_SFR and I have no drive letters. How do I find my files?
A: Click Start - Run. In the 'Open:' box type the path for the desired location (below) and click OK.
